ABOUT US:

Red Bird Knits opened in February 2001.

We are a small family run business with an on-line presence.

I was prompted to start the business when I tried to find interesting yarns for socks and was faced with very little choice. The Socknitters list www.socknitters.com was raving about Regia and I couldn't find any. This gap in supply prompted me to go out and find what I wasn't finding elsewhere.

I intend to continue this focus on socks, seeking out interesting yarns, with great colours, with forays into expanded lines of particular yarns

My second passion is for lace knitting - lacy socks, shawls and scarves - I have several lovely lace weight yarns including merino, mohair, mohair and silk, silk, cashmere and cashmere and silk for lovely lacy items.

Spinning is also of great interest and I try to find wonderful fibres - particularly ones suitable for socks and lace- to delight spinners. They sell out quickly so catch them when you can

I carry patterns from LanaKnits, Heartstrings Fiber Arts, Goddess Knits and MimKnits

Red Bird Knits patterns are all available for download from Patternfish

I carry various knitting and spinning magazines and am always on the lookout for fabulous knitting books.

Please join Red Bird News - my Yahoo Group for regular updates on what is new and specials - send an email to redbirdnews-subscribe@yahoogroups.com to subscribe.

My goal is to provide excellent, timely, personalized service and a good range of interesting and exciting yarns.

Red Bird Knits people:

I have been knitting since I was 6. I started with a doll blanket of red and white Canadiana and haven't stopped for more that a few days ever since. I love hand knitted socks and feel passionate about sharing their delights with other knitters. I am also crazy about colour and have developed some sock patterns of my own that explore the relationships among colours and interesting ways to show them off. Texture is another favourite, with cables at the top of my list.

My background is in business and finance, but my love has always been knitting, music and gardening. I feel privileged to now be able to make my living sharing this love with you!

My son and my nephew have developed this web site from the ground up and provide regular maintenance and updates. My daughter and son help me out at shows - Downtown Knit Collective's Frolic in April. Stop by and say hello.
